Jessica Miller launches her fashion line Twenty Acres

I recently met Jessica at LOT 8 right here in Houston in the trendy Rice Village area where local fashion designer Chloe Dao and former Project Runway winner, hosted an event for emerging local designers.
Jessica's line is called Twenty Acres inspired by her country upbringing.  I fell in love this the green floral dress below.  The neckline was braided and the yellow sash is just so shabby chic.

I was able to do a "sort of" interview with Jessica via the only social network anyone seems to use these days....Facebook.  Here's what she had to say.

ME:  How did you get into fashion?

Jessica:  I've always had a love for fashion.  As young as I can remember I have been designing for Barbies or trying to sew something up with moms left over scrap fabric.  I really knew it was what I wanted to do when I was a fine arts major in college and watching Project Runway I realized I had to give it a shot.  So that next semester I transfered to a school with a fashion design program.

ME:  What and who inspires you?

Jessica:  I'm inspired by every day life, but I feel most inspired when I am at home in west Texas.  If any one knows that part of Texas it's not known for having the most lush landscapes and greenery.  I find beauty in golden wheat fields, wild flowers, and broken down barbed wire fences.
I am also inspired by other designers of course. It's magical to watch grand fashion shows, for 15 minuets it takes you to a dream land, well at least for me.  My all time favorite designer is Alexander McQueen, his designs are truly pieces of art.

ME:  Where did you go to school and what did you study?

Jessica:  I went to a small Christian school in Abilene, McMurry University to study art.  Then I transferred to Texas Tech where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Apparel Design and Manufacturing.

ME:  What is your philosophy about the art of fashion?

Jessica:  Fashion is just another form of art.  A lot of the time it is mass produced but when a designer is draping a garment it is like working on a drawing or painting you have to step back and look at if from different angles the only difference is you have to make sure that what is beautiful on a mannequin will look the same on a real body and fit.

ME:  If you could do anything else, what would you be?

Jessica:  I would love be an interior designer. I'm always redecorating my apt. I love finding old furniture and making it come back to life with a new coat of paint and a little love!

Jessica also has a fashion shoot for her adorable line of dresses and they will all soon be featured on her upcoming website! Check back soon for an update, you don't want to miss out!

Below you can read a little bit more about Jessica's background.

Hope you enjoyed!
Be sure to go check out her line, Twenty Acres, at Lot 8 in Rice Village right off of Kirby!

Tom Petty.....my Heartbreaker

I'd like to think that if you asked any of my family or
friends that they could tell you who
my most favorite musician is.
At the young, tender age of 4 years old I first heard this
amazing man sing.  I must give credit where credit is due though.
I have some pretty amazing aunts and one of them was in her prime,
music listening teens/early twenties.
She used to take me riding about town to flea markets
and old, vintage stores and we would
listen to "that one falling song."  Well "that one falling song"
was none other than the great 'Free Fallin' by
Tom Petty.

That was my first love, I'm sure of it.
As I grew up my aunt would follow his music as did I.
Now in my mid-twenties I havn't stopped listening to his
beautiful lyrics and riffs.
I've been to 3 concerts(far not enough)
and each time I find myself closer and closer to the stage.
I'm was privileged to take my momma with me to my last concert in 2008
and sit on the floor...7th ROW! Yeah, it was the highlight of my
Tom Petty career.

Anyways, I just wanted to share a little bit about my secret love..
actually, it's not really a secret about how much
I love Tom. Love might actually be an understatement.

So, I leave you with this, one of my favorite songs...

Until next time....
Enjoy!

Just The Way You Are acoustic Bruno Mars cover - Anthem Lights

Anthem Lights this week!  I know a girl who works in Nashville and she's always posting new groups and such.  I took a listen to them and they are actually really good.  I enjoyed their cover of 'Just The Way You Are' y Bruno Mars. I'm in love with the acoustic version.

I also fell for their 'Can't Shut Up' original.  There's so much energy in this song, it reminds me of a Twilight Saga song "mash-up" between Mutemath's 'Spotlight' and Muse's 'Supermassive Black Hole.'  Anyways, that was a side note.  Just give them a listen and you see what a wonderful collaboration of voices they have. Also, be sure to listen to the rest of their work as well.

Hope you Enjoyed! Don't forget to leave NEW Creative Launch Prospectives!!

NEW DIRECTIONS! Zach Chance-musician

So, I'm realized that there's not too much to say about Stephen and myself as far as everyday, day-to-day mumbo stuff.  So, I decided that since we both appreciate the arts, that I'll feature either a new or existing artists, musicians or anything dealing with the arts every week for now. We will work on daily or more than weekly. I'll probably throw some random SE+KE (Stephen and Kayleigh, myself) stuff about how we are every once in a while so be prepared!

Well, if you are someone that would like to be featured on here whether you be a fashion designer, musician, artist, creator, graphic designer or anything that relates to the arts let me know! :)

SO! To start us off this week I've chosen this wonderful guy, Zach Chance.

This song Black and Blue was featured on Private Practice several weeks ago.  I LOVE finding new artists.  Stephen does a great job of finding or discovering new, up-and-coming artists.  I think for me this song has a lot of great meaning and I really enjoyed listening to it.

Now, to reminisce a little. Here's some Frente! I remember when my aunt and I would drive around when I was only...eh...4 years old +

My aunts listened to some pretty awesome music.  If it weren't for one of them I don't know that I would love Tom Petty as much as I do today.  I hope you enjoyed these snip-its of my past.

I look forward to hearing from you!
